Job Description
Messer Construction Co., a $650 million year revenue construction firm, is currently seeking an entry Project Engineer for our Knoxville TN location. 
Messer Engineers have the opportunity to experience a number of different positions on our project sites and in our corporate offices.  These positions require high levels of effective oral and written communication skills, problem solving skills and organization skills.

At the project site the Project Engineer's primary responsibility is to assist the site Project Manager in the management and administration of the project.  These responsibilities will vary from project to project but generally would include some or all of the following:

  • Site and building layout
  • Document control
  • Quality control
  • Field production analysis
  • Project controls input (scheduling, cost reporting, PM solutions)
  • Subcontractor and work force coordination
  • Shop drawing/submittal control
  • Material and equipment expediting
  • Subcontractor/supplier solicitation

In our Cost Planning and Estimating Department the Estimating Engineer's primary responsibility is to assist the project team by providing cost planning and estimating information.  These responsibilities will vary but generally would include some or all of the following:

  • Pre-construction project planning
  • Quantity surveying
  • Estimating
  • Subcontractor/supplier solicitation
  • Project bidding coordination
  • Securing bids from subcontractors/suppliers
  • Productivity analysis
  • Scheduling
  • Life-cycle analysis
  • Value engineering analysis

As part of the Building Systems Group the Systems Engineer's primary responsibility is to assist site Project Managers by providing technical support.   These responsibilities will vary from project to project but generally would include some or all of the following:

  • Assisting in the creation of the plan for M.E.P. system installations
  • Assisting in the processing of product shop drawings
  • Quantity surveying
  • Estimating
  • M.E.P. subcontractor coordination
  • Quality assurance of installed materials
  • Troubleshooting M.E.P. systems
  • Developing a plan for effective system start-up and commissioning
  • Life-cycle analysis
  • Value engineering analysis


For consideration, candidates must possess the following:

  • 4 year degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Must be self motivated and have a desire to succeed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be team oriented and have a drive for success.
  • Desire for personal and professional growth.
  • Prior field/estimating experience is a plus.
